import fell pony importation
Interested in importing a Fell
Pony? Let me help you. So far, I'm the
only American to go over to England to live with and apprentice
under a Fell stud. I spent four months
in Cumbria eating, sleeping and breathing Fell Ponies at one
of the top studs in England, Littletree
Fell Ponies, from February to June of 2006. I got to help
break the youngsters, work with the weanlings, go to shows (including
the Stallion Show), visit various studs and see the beginning
of foaling season. Before that, I'd been indulging in the breed
since 2001 when I bought my first Fell, Midnightvalley Sweet
William .
I come from both a dressage and jumping background, although
dressage is my love. Wether you're looking for a gelding
for your children to ride or a top quality show stallion, I can
help you find the right Fell for you. Just let me know what you're
looking for and what qualities are important to you personally.
There's several things you should know about trying to import
a pony from England. One is that Fells are not one of the most
wide spread of breeds. Meaning it's going to be easier to get
a gelding than it is a high quality mare. If you're willing to
do a little waiting, then your options open dramatically. One
of the best ways to get a trained quality Fell is to let us find
the right pony and put the time into breaking it - while it's
still in England. Depending on the prior handling of the pony,
this could be anywhere from one month to several months. This
would assure you a higher quailty pony with correct training,
but there are sometimes ponies for sale already trained. Another
thing to know is that a pony under two years of age spends significantly
less time going through quarantine and also costs less to fly
over, not to mention being easier to find and costing less to
begin with. Importing a Fell can be anywhere from $11,000 to
$16,000 or even more, depending on a number of variables.
Spend your time researching before you make the decision to import. There are quality foals available currently in the states. If importing sounds a bit much, feel free to e-mail and I'll send you recommendations to quality breeders.

Want help with the importing? I can
do that too. Importing a pony can be very intimidating so if
you'd rather have someone who's been through the process before
handle it, just e-mail.
